Vivian had her violin recital today. She played "Brandenburg Concerto No. 5" by J.S. Bach accompanied by her teacher, Valerie Douglas (Ms. Val). Below is video of her performance.
Clint and Holly attended. We also saw a friend from our Brownie troop. Her cousin was playing as well. Nice little surprise!
I also included another video showing part of Pachelbel's Canon in D performed by 2 Junior High boys with Ms. Val and a pianist. Vivian was facsinated as she listened to the older boys play. When I asked her if she wanted to take some time off from playing this summer, she insisted that we continue. She's having a great time. She knows she has a lot to learn, and she seems eager to increase her knowledge and ability. When she's not playing her practice pieces on the violin, she's picking them out on the piano or humming them while she plays "My Little Ponies" or "dinosaurs" in the play room.
Note on Vivian's performance: She didn't seem very pleased with her overall performance. But, given the pressure of performing for an audience, she actually did quite well. She WAS proud of the fact that even when she missed notes, she kept going and didn't start over or get frustrated. Quite mature for a six year old who is well aware of when she doesn't sound "right."

What a pleasure to get to "see" Vivian in her first recital. Well done, Vivi! I'm really impressed with how well she kept time, moving right along, with lovely arm/hand position . . . I think we have a real musician in the making. Glad she's enjoying it. Really a nice job. Thanks so much for sharing it.
