"Sophie and Her Friends"

"There once was a water droplet named Sophie. She lived in a small pond. One day the sun came out, and Sophie got really warm. She started to evaporate into the air. Higher and higher she went. She was scared. She did not like the high. Soon she was surrounded by other droplets. Their names were Hannah, Lizzie, and Allison. They became great friends and went everywhere together. They became a water drop.

"One day they went higher than ever before. They got colder and colder and before they knew it, they were frozen together. They were now the cool kids in the cloud, and many wanted to join them. At first they said yes, but as more and more joined, they got heavier and started to fall. A wind current pushed them back up. More friends joined. Again, they got heavy and started to drop. Once more an air current pushed them up, and more friends joined.

"Sophie wanted to go home. All the up and down made her dizzy. Soon, so many friends had joined them that the wind could no longer push them back up in the cloud.

"Sophie was glad. She and her friends dropped to the ground and melted into a garden."


We wrote this story in science after studying hail. The girls created the framework of the story, and I helped with words and organization.
