Last night was Emma's first ballet recital. She looked quite lovely, as you can see from the pictures below.
Grandma Johnson and our friends Suzanne and Rachel Badger attended with Vivian and me. Cliff was out of town -- the first time he has ever missed something for either of the girls.
The ballet was a story about a young dolphin princess whose parents were captured to perform at Sea World. The young dolphin was sent into hiding to protect her identity until she could return for her parents' throne. In her absence a manatee assumed power. After some shady and underhanded dealings to prevent the return of the princess, the manatee realizes her mistake and the princess is restored to her rightful place on the throne. Throughout the ballet, the various sea creatures practice their performances for the dolphin's coronation (which the manatee mistakenly thinks will be HER coronation, until the very end).
It was a very sweet experience. The school only does ballet and tap but adds tumbling as well. Participants ranged in age from preschool to adult.
Emma's ballet class performed as anemones to the song Beauty and the Beast.

Now! On with the real deal. What a great idea for a ballet, sea creatures. Have to admit, it's hard to imagine a manatee in a tutu, and a mean manatee, at that (even if only temporarily). Emm makes a lovely and very grown-up-looking anemone, and I wish so much we could have been there to see her stage debut.
