Real-life CSI

Wow! What a day!
After a busy Easter weekend visiting grandparents in Ft. Worth, catching up with a childhood friend who lives in that area, and driving to Austin for cousin Jed's dedication last night, we had a most unusual morning as we prepared to return home (Austin to Katy).

Before we got on the road, we took the dogs to the Riverside Dog Park to wear them out for the drive. We arrived around 10:45am and stayed for about 30 min. When we got back to the car we found this:

The back passenger window on the right side was completely smashed in, our belongings were strewn around, and our big suitcase was missing. After we realized what had happened and it sank in a bit, I took the girls and the dogs back to the dog park, and Cliff set about getting the incident reported.
About an hour later he had filed the police report and arranged with the insurance company to fix the window immediately so we could safely return home. As we were preparing to leave, the crime scene investigator arrived. He was great with the girls - explaining everything he did and why he did it. He even let them put their handprints on the car so they could watch him lift them off. Then he gave them to us as souveneirs. Of course he also printed the car where the break-in occurred and then offered his opinion of what happened based on what he observed.

After that Cliff took us girls and the dogs over to John and Darby's to cool our heels while he got the window fixed. We got some lunch, enjoyed their new playroom, and watched a Veggie Tales video. Cliff was back for us around 3:45, and we were home by 6:30.

We really didn't lose much. No one was hurt. The insurance company paid for the window repair and will replace much of what we lost. AND I don't have to unpack or do laundry.
