Allergy Results - FINALLY!

I just got off the phone with Dr. Caldwell's office with the results of Vivian's blood test.

And the winner is: (drum roll, please)

Gluten
Wheat
Yeast

And to lesser extent corn, egg, soy, and milk.

No inhaled allergies. YEA!

So, now what? Well, we're already on wheat, soy, yeast free diet. Therefore, it is not THAT big a deal to go all the way to gluten free. The doctor said to concentrate on those, because they are MAJOR allergies for her. In fact, Vivian's allergies to wheat and yeast were significantly higher than Emma's. So that is where we will begin. She'll also take an antifungal for yeast overgrowth. Then, the nurse said we can do "challenge" tests on corn, egg, soy, and milk at a later date. That just means avoid the allergen for a time and then re-introduce it to "test" for reaction.

The rest of Viv's bloodwork looked good except for her Vitamin D. She will take a D3 supplement for a few months to get it back up to normal.

Not to be too melodramatic, but it I can't help but say how thankful I am that we did this testing. It is entirely possible that we have avoided the development of diabetes. Gluten sensitivity is linked to auto-immune diseases like diabetes, and low vitamin D is also linked to diabetes. We may never know for sure, but with the gf diet and D supplementation, she has a better chance based on what we currently know through science.

Glad to have the info--I hope all of you reap immense benefits from this. Interesting that Vitamin D is deficient, even in the Sunny South.

Interesting. Welcome to gluten free living! GF diet isn't so bad. Eli gets his blood test next week to see if he has any reactions to gluten, so we'll see what the results are...
