Our Big Girl is 8 Years Old!

Emma Grace turned 8 on Wednesday. Where does the time go?

We had her birthday party today. What fun!

Horse theme, of course. We had planned to have a horse at the party. We were concerned about the weather, since a cold front was poised to sweep through and bring rain that might (or might not) affect our party plans. As it turned out, the weather was GORGEOUS (not at all like her first birthday when the frosting was melting off her cake). Unfortunately, our horse person, Emma's OT, Fritzi, had sick kids and couldn't come. So even though we had great horse weather, we were horseless.

The big hit of the day (besides cake and presents) was barrel racing. I set up cones on the driveway, marked the directions with sidewalk chalk, and timed each girl as she ran the race. They were AWESOME! It took a couple of turns for them to really figure out the pattern of crossing the path with each turn, but once they got it, they were FAST! Jami had the best time of 8.17 seconds. Claire got really close to breaking 9 seconds. Vivian and Holly were consistently in the 9-10 second range. Emma may not have been fast, but she had style and a lot of fun!

And then there was cake. Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and miniature Breyer horses in a field of green.

What wonderful pictures. That's a beautiful cake, and both girls look really fast around the cones. I love Emma's tongue action -- she looks radiant -- and Vivi looks like a real speed queen! Glad you had a great day for the party. It sounds like a fun and happy day, even without the presence of a real horse. Good show.

Good to see you back online! Happy birthday to Emma Grace! Uncle Steve and Aunt Laura were completely oblivious to the fact that she was turning 8! Hmmm... I must've had something else on my mind.
